応永18（1411）年恕仲天誾禅師（じょちゅうてんぎんぜんじ）は観音菩薩の教示により、初めてこの地に錫を留めますと、時の将軍足利義持公は禅師の高徳を慕い帰依して、自らその荘園とその境内の地とを寄贈し、禅師の為に一大梵刹を創建し、これを橘谷山大洞院と号した。
以来数百年大洞院の門風ますます栄え、今や大本山総持寺の御直末で全国に末寺3400ヶ寺の総本山であり、曹洞宗屈指の名刹であります。

A brief
history of Daitoin TempIe
In Ohei 18 (1411 AD) a famous Zen priest, Jochu
Tengin Zenji Visited this land inspired by Kannon
Bosatsu. The then Shougun, Yoshimochi Asikaga who
was greatly impressed with his teachings and virtue
worshipped him from his heart. As a result, he
presented part of his Shouen(his own domain) to
Jochu Tengin Zenji and then founded a temple.
For him, which is now called Daitoin temple. Since
then, this temple has greatly flourished. Around
3400 branch temples have been founded under its
auspices all over the country, and at present this
is known to be one of the most prestigious Buddhist
temples in Japan. |
